"I'm going to invite auditions in each city for local musicians to be my band for part of my show each night (for 3 or 4 songs). The audition tapes will be handled by the local student unions and they will advise me on who the likely candidates are so we can then put it all together at soundcheck. For me it's about willingly embracing the unknown for the possibility of brilliance. A thrilling flirtation with complete strangers, every night a different band. It may well be hair raising, disasterous, funny or sublime but it will certainly be an adventure...I canât wait"
The Audition process This is simply about showing Neil that you are proficient on your instrument and that you can play Neil Finn songs. * Send a tape of you playing one Neil Finn song from either Split Enz, Crowded House or Neil Finn solo. Itâs important you write your name, address, contact number, instrument, and the show you are auditioning for on the cover of the cassette or CD that you send. * Keep the choice of songs to the most popular or "the singles" * Tell us your age * Tell us what instrument you play * Give us your phone number * Individual musicians only - NOT bands. * The audition process will begin by the local student union or other nominated person culling tapes. They will invite musicians along to soundcheck/rehearsal on the day of the show. Neil will then hand pick a band to perform 3 or 4 songs during the later part of his show. * backline equipment will be supplied * the best musicians will also take part in Neil's March/April concert season * address to "Neil Finn" * to recap - send tape or CD with all your details written on the cover - no scraps of paper please - they get lost.
